I hope your last day of May, 2013 was a good one.  I really appreciated how everyone worked hard to finish up their work on the 2nd Voyage of the Mimi, Science and Art.

FUN FACT: The average human eats 8 spiders in their lifetime at night.

Here's the  site we've been using to make sense of fractions:

ePractice Fractions

We have reviewed the first 8 activities so far. Activities 1 - 12 would be a great way to practice for a test! (Hint, hint!)

Here is what I'd like you to work with today:

Fraction Flags: Do a couple of the questions on the site to warm up. Then design a flag that is:

a) 1/2 white, 1/8 blue, 1/8 yellow, 1/4 red

b) 1/3 blue, 1/6 yellow, 1/12 white, 2/6 red, 1/12 green

If you have time: Use the print screen key to capture your one of your flags, paste it in Paint, save as a JPEG, and then put it on your blog!

Nothing in our agendas today.  I hope you found today productive.  We continued work on the 2nd Voyage of the Mimi by reading and watching the 3rd episode.  We also continued our work on fractions. Today's focus was on drawing pictures of "improper" fractions and expressing them as "mixed" numbers.  Throw in a strenuous indoor hallway DPA (Daily Physical Activity) session, a video about ancient Rome and a period playing our drums, and you see we had a pretty full day!

Episode 9 of Portable TV is now on the air!  Click here to see our fourth episode of this season.

Oh, and make sure you keep watching after the credits. :)
